This boat in particular has always been kept indoors in a shipyard and used only a few hours during its entire life. We can consider it NEW.
This astonishing daysailer is a perfect example of what we call a “New classic”. Hoeck Design almost invented this kind of boat which mix traditional shapes with modern material. With every detail absolutely top of the range. The result is grace, proportions, high performance and – especially in these small dimensions – the possibility of managing the boat alone, without crew.
The forerunner of this trend could be considered the Trieste-born master Carlo Sciarrelli, whose more recent boats—often built of wood—race in the “Spirit of Tradition” class, but they may seem like products from a century ago. Visit my website to see his boats, too.
Many experienced owners, after having fitted out larger and more complex boats, with numerous crews, choose simplicity and a direct relationship with this type of boat, returning to enjoying the boat alone or at least without the need for professionals.
On the contrary, sailors who come from the world of dinghies or who are at the beginning of their experience, can choose this easy-to-manage boat, which gives them enormous aesthetic and sporting satisfaction, while still being comfortable.
In Italy, this type of small boat doesn’t require registration, so it also has the advantage of completely eliminating any bureaucracy. A sporty owner can enjoy suitable cruises, but can also use it for a quick tack in front of his beach house. A sporty owner can enjoy suitable cruises, but can also use it to take a quick tack in front of his beach house. He’ll certainly be noticed even among gigantic yachts and appreciated by those who know about boats.

(Courtesy Yacht Capital)
The Essence 33 has something of the Wally
Nano about it because of its mix of classic and
modern elements: a sleekly raked stern and a
plumb bow, a compact, square deckhouse
and a highly efficient sail plan with a
gennaker tacked to the bowsprit. However,
one characteristic makes this Dutch 10-metre
very different from its 36’ Monegasque
counterpart: it can be loaded onto a trailer.
This might be a secondary consideration were
it not a daysailer but all you have to do is drive
to wherever you want to launch and use the
kind of small crane you’ll find in most marinas
(its displacement is under 3 tonnes) and your
problem of long sea transfers is solved. This
is also a very nippy little yacht – just look at
its waterlines, appendages and sail plan
(around 70 square metres of white sails with
minimal overlap jib and around 90 square
metres of gennaker). The interiors are pared
to the minimum with just two berths in
addition to the saloon bench. But there is also
a fridge and marine WC.
